St. Paul was born in Tarsus, one of the towns in Cilicia, a Roman Province in the year 5 A.D. He was named after the first Jewish king Saul and an added Roman name Paulus according to the custom. He was sent to Jerusalem and there he received a thorough Hebrew education in the school of Gamaliel andbecame the great Doctor of the Laws.
Being a staunch Jew he began to persecute the Church. It is on the way to Damascus that he encountered Jesus, the Lord, which led him to become an ardent believer of Jesus.
A philosopher, a theologian and a scholar and a literary figure of far excellence was St. Paul. He is the greatest religious genius that Christianity has ever had. Though two thousand years old, his writings are still inspiring and instilling.
He was arrested during the Christian persecution of Nero. He was beheaded outside the gates of the city of Rome on 29th of June in the year 67 A.D.
Being an intellectual and a hardworking person with great will power, he is the patron of very many
Christian educational institutions all over the world. May St. Paul, the patron of this institution in Pratapgarh, grant us the courage, strength and wisdom to be bearers of Light in the field of education.
